Morning Fastbreakers

                                         Mom’s Family Diner

Driving through the intersection of 41st Street and Mingo Road, you cannot help but notice a large building on the southeast corner with MOM’S FAMILY DINER across the top. The Tulsa Breakfast Club decided to investigate this place at 4101 S. Mingo Rd.,
918-508-2990.

Mom’s is a large, clean, comfortable diner. There is nothing “Wowish” about it, it is just a comfortable place to have breakfast. The selections abound in a three-page breakfast menu. It lists several waffle orders, but they are made using the large Belgium waffle. The service was pleasant and we never saw the bottom of the coffee cup.

We all happened to select from the “Specialty Breakfast” section. One fast breaker ordered the Mom’s Favorite, which is two eggs any style, 8oz ham steak, two bacon strips, two sausage patties, hash browns, and two slices of buttered toast. It was good. It all came on one of the largest square plates I have ever seen. The ham steak was juicy and flavorful and the eggs tasted extra good for some reason. The sausage patties had an unusual spice mixed into it.

The second clubber ordered the Mom’s Deluxe, which is similar to the favorite, except it comes with two ham strips instead of the steak and home fries instead of hash browns. He also ordered two pancakes instead of toast. It came on a giant square plate. There were no complaints.

The third clubber ordered the Sampler Scrambled, three scrambled eggs topped with cheddar cheese and served with two sausage patties, two bacon strips, hash browns and a large biscuit with gravy. No complaints from the third clubber.

We gave Mom’s an A-.  It was comfortable, yet nothing outstanding except for the platters.
