“Go West Young Man”

This quote was made by John B. L. Soule. The quote first appeared as the title to the 1851, Terre Haute Express editorial written by Mr. Soule. Along with being wrongly credited to Mr. Horace Greeley, it has also been misquoted. It was originally written as: “Go West. Young man, and grow up with the country”

Three of the Tulsa Breakfast Club members ventured west to Redfork, Oklahoma to visit and have a meal at Ollie's Station Restaurant. The establishment is located at West 41st and Southwest Boulevard on Old Route 66.

According to the proprietor, “The old cafe style is enhanced by the railroad motif. Ten running trains, from G-scale to Z-scale, run the length of the dining room and through scale model cities and towns. Our walls and shelves abound with railroad memorabilia. Ollies is located in old downtown Redfork on a corner that's been here since 1894. Railroads, oil wells, and the famous Route 66 all merge at Redfork Corner to give young and old a touch of history and some of the best food in Oklahoma.”

The Wait Staff was attentive and service was fast and professional. The menu exhibited “down-home” cooking with a few twists tossed-in to create a unique experience.

Chicken Fried Steak was the third selection. The meal was ordered with eggs, meat and biscuits without gravy. Gravy was poured over the Chicken Fried Steak and seemed salty. Overall, the entree was rated a good.

We rated Ollies A.
