                                              Family Diner

Ever run into a good friend you have not seen in years? Two things can happen. You find you have drifted far apart and have little in common now or you pick up your relationship right where you left it, without skipping a beat.

In a way that is how it was when the Tulsa Breakfast Club visited the the Family Diner at 3535 East Admiral Place. To put it simply the Family Diner is the reincarnation of the now closed Blue Dome Diner that was a popular spot in Downtown Tulsa's Blue Dome District. The owners the same, the menu is the same, many of the staff are the same, even the assortment of corporate coffee mugs is the same.

To be honest the Family Diner is going through some growing pains and hopefully time will cure them. The biggest problem may be manpower. We were there around 8:30 in the morning and there was only one waitress. She did a super job, but her initial demeanor was a bit less than desired. She warmed up as the meal progressed.

Two Club members selected the eggs and chicken fried steak breakfast. Both complimented the steak. The member who ordered poached eggs commented they were perfect and the yolk was not overdone. The other chicken fried steak eater ordered hash browns and felt they were more burned than brown. The third member of our party ordered an omelet with diced ham, mushrooms, onions, and cheese. It was fluffy and bursting with the fillings.

Our coffee mugs were never long from being topped off and all of us noted the servings to be very generous. Finish a breakfast at the Family Diner and you can likely skip lunch.

The Tulsa Breakfast Club hopes the Family Diner will become as popular as the Blue Dome Diner. The one drawback is the location. The area around Admiral Place and Harvard is not as hopping as the Blue Dome District.

As we graded the Family Diner there was disagreement with grades of "A" and "B" suggested by members. We split the difference and settled on a well-deserved "B+".
