Gillie's in Blacksburg, Virginia

       This club journey is to Blacksburg, Virginia and just a stroll from Virginia Tech University is Gillie's. If you want a big slab of bacon with breakfast this is not for you. Gillie's offers inspired vegetarian cuisine, but meat lovers should not be scared off. The food is made from scratch and is superb.

      Gillie's restaurant has a BBD-like atmosphere. The 122 Special includes two eggs, a side of grits, and a huge homemade biscuit. Another diner selected the Poached Egg Florentine complete with fresh spinach, cheddar cheese, and guacamole. When finished the diner said it was "the best breakfast he ever had.”

      The clubber on the trip ordered the Red Earth plate. It was a mound of potatoes, scrambled eggs, and topped with salsa. It was huge and delicious. The three shared a single buckwheat pancake that draped over the edge of the plate.

       While each of us rated Gillie's an A grade, none of us could clean our plates. Our advice is to order less and share if you happen to swing through Blacksburg.
