Morning Fastbreakers

Freeway #2

Today at breakfast, we were accompanied by a friend and fellow SJHC associate, Jim Lane, owner and founder of A-Best Roofing Company. His plant is located at 1411 East 3rd St., very impressive. He was kind enough to pick up our tab, “Thank you Jim.”*

The place we picked was the new Freeway #2 at 1547 East 3rd St. The décor is similar to the original Freeway at 4th and Sheridan. The first thing we noticed was a lady siting a table joyfully spooning down what appeared to be an ice cream sundae of some sort. It was in a tall old fashion soda fountain glass and looked so cool and refreshing. Later we found out it was a Nonfat Greek Yogurt Parfait with alternating thin layers of strawberries and blackberries. It looked delicious.

We started out sharing an appetizer, a homemade cinnamon roll covered with a light frosting. That was the biggest cinnamon roll I have ever seen in my life.

One breaker ordered the Ham Steak and Eggs. It was a large thick slab of country ham blazed on the griddle, two eggs, and hash browns. It took three plates to serve it.

The second breaker ordered Grilled Pork Chops and Eggs. Two eggs with two center cut cops seasoned and grilled to perfection and hash browns.

The third breaker ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Tender USDA Choice round steak, hand breaded then golden-fried with two eggs and hash browns.

The fourth breaker ordered the Oklahoma Omelet. Bacon, sausage, shredded beef and ham with fresh green peppers, onions and Cheddar cheese, served with the house salsa.

The servings were so large that each order took three plates. The service was exemplary, she was called Smurfette because she had very chic blue hair and ribbons. She made sure we never saw the bottoms of our coffee cups.

We gave Freeway #2 an A.
